The DuBois Public Library employees, and many of our patrons, had a great time celebrating the end of summer reading at Parker Dam State Park on the last day of July. With the sun shining and the warm temperatures enjoyable, we had a fun-filled day of nature walks, worm races, storytelling, and swimming. Some of our wonderful patrons even baked cookies for snack time! Overall, the day was a success and we are already making plans for next summer!
In total, we had 294 patrons register for our summer reading program, which led to participants reading a grand total of 4,098 books! Participants were able to sign up for summer reading starting on June 1, and were encouraged to read and log as many books as they could through July 31. For their reading dedication, our patrons were then eligible to receive a variety of prizes from bookmarks and journals to bags and movie tickets.
Now that summer reading has ended and school is just around the corner, the pace has slowed at the library, allowing us time to catch our breath and look towards planning for the fall. Starting on Thursday, September 5, we will be starting up our ever-popular storytimes! Story hours will start with the two-year-olds at 10 a.m., followed by the three-year-olds at 11 a.m. In the afternoon at two o’clock, it will be time for the four and five-year-olds to join us. In addition to hearing some great stories, kids will also perform finger plays, sing songs, play with toys, and march to the sound of musical instruments.
You do not need to be a member of the library in order to join us for story hours. Everyone is welcome! We just want you to come visit and enjoy the time with your little one. If you want to know more, give us a call at 371-5930, or stop in and we can give you a schedule for the school year. We hope to see you soon!
