The Jefferson County Library System will be hosting Suzanne Bloom author of the children’s book The Bus for Us. On Friday, April, 26th the Mengle Memorial Library (Brockway) will host the author at 9 am; Rebecca Arthurs Memorial Library (Brookville) will host the author at 11 am; and the DuBois Public Library will host the author at 3 pm. This program will last approximately one hour. Please arrive a few minutes early so that the programs may start on time.

Over the years Suzanne’s books have received a lot of recognition. A Splendid Friend, Indeed was the 2007 Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child selection, a Theodore Seuss Geisel Honor book and ALA Notable book. It also appeared on the 2012 short list for best picture books published in the UK. Texas 2x2 selected A Splendid Friend, Indeed in 2006 and A Mighty Fine Time Machine in 2010. Bloom’s book The Bus for Us has been chosen as this year’s book for Pennsylvania’s One Book, Every Young Child program.

In The Bus for Us, Tess is excited. Today is her first day of school and her very first ride on a school bus. Waiting at the bus stop with her older brother Gus, Tess eagerly asks, "Is this the bus for us, Gus?" as each vehicle passes by. From fire engine to front loader, Suzanne Bloom introduces young readers to a variety of vehicles through a simple text and spirited illustrations.

For the eighth consecutive year, the “PA One Book” program will lead the way and highlight the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers ages 3 to 6. Through this program, adults with preschoolers in their lives will learn how they can support the development of literacy in preschool children.
