Checking Out E-Books is Easier Than Ever!!

3/27/2013

Do you borrow e-books through the DuBois Public Library?  Would you like to start?  If so, we want to let you  know that borrowing e-books is now easier than ever!  The program that we are using, Overdrive Downloads, has upgrading their system.  When you click on the link through our website, take a few minutes to watch the video at the very top of the screen titled “Discover the New Generation experience.”  The website is now much more user-friendly and easier to navigate.  The new format also allows anyone with a library card to log in and read a book using their internet browser.  Save the book to your favorites and you can read it offline too!  This means that you don’t need to download additional software or even own an e-reader.  Simply click the ‘Read (In Your Browser)’ button and enjoy!
For those of you that own e-readers and are familiar with our past system, don’t panic.  The video shows you just how easy browsing and checking has become.  The new Overdrive system allows you to use multiple devices to read one book.  If you are sitting at your computer enjoying your newly checked out e-book, but it’s time to visit the doctor, just grab your e-reader as you go out the door and keep reading while sitting in the waiting room.
With the new set-up you no longer have to click on the book title to see if it is currently checked out.  When you see the title, just check for the small book icon in the upper right corner of the displayed book cover.  If it is black then the book is available for check out.  A gray icon means it is checked out, but you can still put a reserve on the book.  Once you find your book(s), checking out is much simpler with the new one-click check out feature.  And when your loan time is up, the book automatically expires so that you never have to worry about late fees.
Have you ever browsed through the e-books trying to find a book that catches your eye?  Did you sit there wishing for a recommendation?  Your wish has now been granted!  The updated system has a link to your personal recommendations based on the titles you have browsed, checked out, and included on your wish list.
Please let us know if you need help borrowing e-books.  We are more than happy to help you and show you how to navigate the new system.  You can also have your questions answered by going to the help page (located at the top) where you will find frequently asked questions, additional resources, and a link to contact support by e-mail or phone.
If you wish to keep up-to-date with library events or want to know what new books we have added to the collection, you are welcome to visit us at www.duboispubliclibrary.org.  We also have a Facebook page so look us up, like our page, and stay current on all the latest library activites, news, and fun facts.  We welcome your comments and feedback.  It always puts a smile on our faces to see one more library lover joining our Facebook page and sharing their thoughts.
